BEST installs mobile air purifiers in buses for improved air quality

The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) has installed air purifiers in 15 diesel buses to improve air quality in Mumbai. The initiative will be extended to 350 buses in the next two months. The filters can clean up to 15,000 cubic meters of air per hour, capturing 12-15 grams of suspended particulate matter.

Police, transport dept finally take note of e-bike menace

Government agencies are addressing the nuisance caused by mini electric bikes in Mumbai, including haphazard parking, rash driving, and breaching of traffic signals. The bikes are not regulated under the Motor Vehicles Act or transport department rules, making it difficult to enforce regulations. BEST moves to non-AC CNG bus to address depleting fleet

The Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) has received the first set of non-AC CNG single-decker buses as part of its plan to strengthen its fleet. The buses will be operated on a wet lease and are expected to start operating within a week or 10 days. BEST intends to have a fleet of 10,000 electric buses by 2027.

On public demand, BEST decides not to scrap open-deck buses

The Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking in Mumbai will be procuring new open-deck tourist buses after receiving positive feedback from the public. The decision comes after the announcement that the last three such buses would be scrapped. The buses will be used for curated and non-curated tours, with fares ranging from ₹180 to ₹400.

700 AC e-double-deckers to hit city roads by mid-2024

The public transport undertaking had awarded a tender for supplying 900 double-decker electric buses to two firms, of which Causis E-Mobility was to provide 700 such buses. The remaining 200 double-decker e-buses are being manufactured by Switch Mobility

A letter has been written by the Undertaking seeking financial assistance as their fleet is down to 3,100 buses. The BEST already has losses of over ₹6,000 crore. BEST Undertaking is procuring these buses as it has to maintain a of 3,337 buses as per a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with BEST Workers Union.

Activist group revives after three years, voices against quality of BEST buses

Over the past few days, AMAB has been holding these ‘campaigns’ at BEST bus stations that are outside railway stations. They are also asking people for their support to revive the depleting bus fleet.

“We have already begun our campaign outside Wadala, Andheri, Kurla and Goregaon against the wet lease of buses by BEST which is impacting quality. The recent instances of these wet lease buses catching fire and non-payment issues are a concern.
