The Narendra Modi government agreeing to drop its education minister in the aftermath of an agitation is only the third instance of this 12-year-long government bowing down to a popular agitation.
With Joshi now taking charge of the ministry, several Congress MPs have criticised the government, citing the new education minister's link to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
