A boy was swept away in Gola river in Haldwani on Saturday after rains lashed various parts of Uttarakhand, triggering landslides and rivers flowing in spate.

Kartik Joshi, son of milk supplier Bipin Chandra Joshi was playing near his home when he fell into the nearby Bithoriya nullah which was in spate. His body was found around 200 metres form the site of drowning.

The Uttarakhand high court on Wednesday asked the state government to construct a proposed solid waste management plant in Haldwani within the next six months

‘Provide sites for plants to treat medical, other waste’

The Uttarakhand High Court on Tuesday directed the state government to provide sites for setting up storage, processing and recycling facilities for bio-medical and municipal waste and hand them over to the concerned local authorities within six months.

Quarrying is not allowed on the Gola river. Due to the ban on quarrying, sand and gravel have collected in large quantities and need to be removed.
