Hurricane Dorian, the most powerful hurricane on record to hit the Bahamas, parked itself over part of the archipelago for almost two days earlier this week, pummeling it with Category 5 winds, with some gusts topping 200 miles per hour (320 kph).

Cruise ship companies,including Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., Norwegian Cruise Line Holding Ltd. and Bahamas Paradise Cruise Line, have been involved in relief efforts in the Bahamas since the hurricane smashed into the islands, pulverizing entire neighborhoods and leaving at least 30 people dead.

Hurricane Dorian pummels Bahamas with Category 4 assault

The storm’s top sustained winds fell slightly to 155 mph (250 kph), and its westward movement slowed almost to a standstill. The system crawled along Grand Bahama Island at just 1 mph (2 kph) and was expected to generate a storm surge of 18 to 23 feet (6 to 7 meters).
