Champai was Jharkhand chief minister from February 2, days after his predecessor and JMM acting president Hemant Soren was imprisoned, till July 3. He made way after Hemant was released from jail.
Champai Soren had taken over the reins of the state after Hemant Soren was forced to resign before being arrested by the ED in an alleged land scam case
Champai Soren, the current water resources minister of Jharkhand, was appointed to the chief minister's post after Hemant Soren was arrested by ED in January.
