Covid-19 curbs take a back seat on Dusshera in West Bengal’s Kharagpur

Thousands of people from Kharagpur and nearby villages gathered at the spot on Monday, to see the burning of the 54-feet effigy. While physical distancing between people took a back-seat many were not even wearing face masks raising the risk of transmission.

Covid-19: IIT Kharagpur researchers develop AI-based system to track social distancing

The team, under the leadership of professor Debashish Chakravarty and professor Aditya Bandopadhyay, has engineered a low-cost device which can detect the gap between individuals, a spokesperson of IIT-KGP said.

28 shops gutted in fire on IIT-Kharagpur campus, none injured

“The fire broke out at Tech Market on the campus at 7.50 pm on Friday. Two fire tenders doused the blaze after two hours of firefight. There have been no reports of any casualty,” a fire brigade official said.

IIT Kharagpur researchers use 50 wet clothes to generate electricity at dhobi ghat

The clothes were connected to a commercial super-capacitor. In the process, the researchers were able to reliably charge up to around 10 volts in almost 24 hours. This stored energy is enough to glow a white LED for more than 1 hour.
