Officials of Mattewara forest found another Sambar deer dead on a roadside near Mand Chaunta village in Ludhiana on Thursday. It was the second such incident within last 10 days when a deer was found dead. The officials suspected that someone had killed the Sambar as one leg of the animal was missing.

HC fines Punjab’s former district attorney 10 lakh

The Punjab and Haryana high court has fined a former district attorney (DA) of Punjab with ₹10 lakh for making a false statement against a senior Punjab police officer, who was probing an FIR registered by the DA. The former DA, Narinder Singh Kahlon, had alleged before court that inspector general of police V Neerja, who was heading the special investigation team (SIT) in this case herself had changed the members of the SIT on her own.

Security beefed up at civil secretariat and HC after threat call

The Punjab and Haryana high court (HC) registrar office has received a threat letter claiming that two men are conspiring to blow up the Punjab civil secretariat and the HC on October 16, police said on Tuesday. The letter was written in English and Punjabi and the writer identified himself as Paramjit Singh, a resident of Tangori village in Punjab, police said.
