Pawan Gupta is the only one among the four convicts to have not exhausted all their legal remedies. Despite a seven-day deadline set by Delhi High Court for him to avail his legal options, Gupta hadn’t filed either a curative petition or a mercy petition so far.

Prison officials said on condition of anonymity that Mukesh Singh (32), Pawan Kumar Gupta (25), Akshay Thakur (31) and Vinay Sharma (26), who were moved on January 16 to Tihar’s Jail No 3, where the death sentence will be carried out, are on “suicide watch” the likes of which Tihar has never seen before.

Pawan Gupta has filed plea against Delhi high court order, which had dismissed the ‘forged’ affidavit filed by his lawyer and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000.

The judge had earlier accepted a request from the convict Pawan Kumar Gupta’s lawyer AP Singh to give him some time to file additional documents to back his claim. The judge allowed the time and posted the case for 24 January.
