Mary Kom (51kg) also said her experience of over two decades will be her biggest weapon against younger opponents in Tokyo. She ended with a bronze at the qualifiers.
Mary Kom has maintained that she would go by the decision taken by the federation, which had earlier stated that only the gold and silver-winners from the world event would be given direct selection for the Olympic qualifiers.
Mary is in Guwahati, at the India Open, with a point to prove and an improbable goal in mind—that at 36, she is still at the top of her game; and she is still aiming for the Olympics in 2020.
The 51kg category is the hottest contest in women’s boxing in India. Mary won the sixth of her World Championship titles in New Delhi last year (45-48kg), and is gunning for yet another Olympic medal.
Mary Kom and Pinky Jangra will be the big names in the Indian team at the AIBA Elite Women World Championship in New Delhi beginning from November 15 to 24.
