Bihar: 118 ultrasound centres sealed in 6 districts for violations under PNDT Act

Plea to decriminalise PNDT Act rules rejected

A bench of justices Arun Mishra and Vineet Saran held that “dilution of the provisions of the Act or the rules would only defeat the purpose of the Act to prevent female foeticide, and relegate the right to life of a girl child under Article 21 of the Constitution, to a mere formality.

The petition challenging the provisions of the act was filed by the federation of obstetricians and gynaecologists.

To promote girl child, Delhi govt plans award

The award will be given by Delhi’s Pre Conception, Pre-Natal Diagnostics Techniques (PC-PNDT) cell to motivate families and boost the sex ratio in Delhi, which stood at 902 females born against every 1,000 males in 2016.

Gurugram has no cell to curb prenatal sex selection tests

Gurugram’s deputy chief medical officer says number of raids, cases registered under PCPNDT Act would be higher if the district had Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PNDT) cells.
