The Bombay High Court has allowed the Thane Municipal Corporation to construct a bridge on Desai Creek, which is expected to cut traffic congestion on a major road by 25% and reduce travel time by 60%. The court granted permission on the basis that the bridge would aid sustainable development, and that necessary permissions had already been granted by environmental authorities. The civic body had to seek permission from the high court after a previous judgement prohibited construction within mangrove forests and a 50 metre buffer zone around them.
