Library for children on tram to be launched in Kolkata

Kolkata has the only existing tramways in India. The Kolkata Tramways have been operating since 1873 when the first tram pulled by horses started operations.
The Kolkata Young Reader’s Tramcar has been jointly developed by the West Bengal Transport Corporation and Apeejay Anand Children’s Library and will have around 1,000 books.(PHORO CREDIT: WBTC)

In a first, Kolkata to get tram library

The tram library, which will be inaugurated on Thursday, will travel regularly between Shyambazar and Esplanade, traversing 4.5 km through the city’s education hub -- College Street, Kapur said.

Bengal private bus operators demand fare hike due to diesel price hike, Covid restrictions

Various private bus operators’ associations in West Bengal last week met an expert committee set up by the state government to discuss demands made by them, including a fare hike, for the survival of the private passenger transport business.
The WBTC is, at present, plying buses in 135 routes in the city and the suburbs, the official said.(PTI)

Bengal govt to run buses on 40 routes as more offices start functioning

The buses, including air-conditioned ones, would run on various routes across the city as well as in the suburbs and districts from 7 am to 7 pm, a notification issued by the managing director of WBTC said.
The WBTC had been operating skeletal bus services during the lockdown period on some popular routes for emergency purposes and health workers.(PTI)
