Keeping the upcoming Oscars in mind, here’s a list of the most popular location tours for entertainment buffs who’d say their choice of destination is based on the films and TV series that they watch.
Oscar season casts the spotlight not only on Hollywood’s leading men and women but also on supporting actors, including a film’s setting. With the most important night of American cinema coming up, online booking site TripAdvisor has compiled a list of the most popular film and TV-inspired location tours for entertainment buffs.
According to a TripBarometer study conducted in 2015, one in five travellers said their choice of destination is based on the films and TV series that they watch.
The last season of Game of Thrones, for instance, is credited with driving up searches for shooting locations across Spain by 125%.
Here are a few of the top-rated location-based tours among TripAdvisor members:
London
London-bound tourists who are also Harry Potter fans can sign up for a tour that takes guests to the Ministry of Magic and other filming locations, including the Leaky Cauldron pub, Honeyduke’s shop (pictured above), and the Gringotts wizarding bank. After a whirl through Leadenhall Market, which fans will recognize as Diagon Alley, the tour ends at King’s Cross Station Platform 93/4.

Paris
As one of the most photogenic cities in the world, it’s no wonder filmmakers often cast Paris in a supporting role for their movies. During a two-hour walking tour with Set in Paris Movie Tours, guests are led to the streets, shops and landmarks that have been immortalized in popular films like Midnight in Paris, Before Sunset, The Devil Wears Prada, Julie & Julia, The Bourne Identity and Marie Antoinette (pictured above).
