That means that some of the British broadcaster’s most popular shows including Doctor Who, Top Gear and Sherlock could be turned into theme park rides and attractions for visiting fans.

The BBC-themed attractions will add a distinctly British feel to existing plans for the London Paramount Entertainment Resort, a Hollywood-inspired park with 50 water, family and thrill rides based on blockbuster movies such as Mission: Impossible, Star Trek, The Godfather and The Italian Job.

The £2 billion ($3.1 billion) project is a joint collaboration between BBC Worldwide and the London Resort Company Holdings.

The park is expected to open in the spring of 2020, by the Thames estuary in North Kent. London Paramount will be the first theme park of its kind in the UK and is expected to attract 15 million visitors a year or 50,000 people on a typical day.

In addition to movie and BBC-themed attractions, plans call for the construction of the largest indoor water park in Europe.

The opening of London Paramount would pose a potential rival to Disneyland Paris, which developers used as a model of potential tourism benefits.
Like Disneyland Paris, which attracts half of its visitors from domestic markets and the other half from international markets, London Paramount is also hoping to become an international destination.
