MTV is planning to bring back its decade-old, popular flagship gag show, Bakra. The new edition will see VJ Cyrus Broacha back as host, and the channel says this is Bakra in its classic form.
“The promos for the new season have been made, but we start shooting only after the festival of Ganpati,” says Broacha. However, the actual shooting is yet to begin. The channel is looking to start airing the new episodes starting October 16, but the rain has prevented the crew from shooting outdoors.

Bakra
has always been MTV’s signature property, and the channel has unfailingly brought out a gag each April Fool’s day since its launch. However, this time, the channel came across a new format, which appealed to everyone, and it was decided that the show would be restarted in a new avatar.
A few episodes have been hosted by other VJs from the channel, but the forthcoming edition will bring Broacha back. “We’re all leading hectic lives and looking for some sort of release, and
Bakra
brings that element of fun to people’s lives. People think reality is what MTV is all about, but it’s actually a youth ‘adda’ that plays
harmless pranks on people for kicks,” says Aditya Swamy, channel head, MTV India.
The channel says that the format of the show has been entirely refurbished, and the gags, too, are brand new. “The promo shows Cyrus as the butcher and all his harmless victims as goats. And that’s the note on which we’re going to kick off,” adds Swamy.
