Dulaari in Comedy Nights with Kapil?

As makers mull over this question, a new and similar-looking character - Dulaari - will be seen on the show this weekend. PIC INSIDE

It’s barely been two weeks since comedian Sunil Grover walked out of Comedy Nights With Kapil — the show on which he played the role of the popular character, Gutthi. And already, rumours about the makers wanting to bring the character back have started doing the rounds.

Reports even claimed that comedian Raju Srivastav was approached to reprise the role. But a source close to Srivastav explains why that isn’t the case, saying, "It’s an unlikely possibility because Raju supported Sunil when the channel barred him from using

Gutthi

’s mannerisms in any other show."

The source further reveals that Raju was apparently approached to play another character long before

Sunil left

. "This is an attempt to keep the Gutthi debate going," says the source.

In a new addition to the tale, comedian

Gaurav Gera

has also been roped in to play the role of another character who shares striking resemblance with

Gutthi

. However, Gaurav says he has only "done Dulaari (the character) for a one-off episode".

On December 1, this new character will be seen in a special episode featuring Saif Ali Khan. The insider, however, feels that the decision to add Dulaari to the mix is just meant to buy the makers some more time. "Perhaps the response to Dulaari will help them decide whether to bring Gutthi back or keep the show going with the new character," says the source.
