Social media sites have created attention deficit in consumers: Mahesh Bhatt

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt says that new age television viewers have a short attention span and therefore need content with quick but in-depth story telling.

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt has been associated with television shows from a long time but feels it is the digital space that has changed the viewing patterns of the audience.

Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt talks about the changes times in the world of television.

“I think in the digital age new social sites have created an attention deficit in the consumer. Viewers have become impatient and unless you grab the audience by their jugular, they are not willing to give you a chance,” says Bhatt, who recently wrote the script for a show said to be inspired from his film Zakhm (1998).

The 67-year-old filmmaker, who has worked on popular television shows such as Swabhimaan and Kabhie Kabhie, believes in changing with the current times. “You need to adapt yourself to this impatient age, but still tell your stories with depth. In the current times, they may not agree to adapt to your leisurely pace, but that does not mean that you narrate so fast that it gets stripped of all meaning,” he says.
