The actor says that her marriage had always been abusive and this was why she always kept to herself, to avoid being questioned.

It was four months ago that TV actor Rashami Desai decided to separate from actor Nandish Sandhu, her husband of three-and-half-years, and the two have been at loggerheads since then. (Twitter)

“My relationship was always abusive, so I chose to not socialise much. People who knew me knew that what pain I was going through. So where I could not avoid, I chose to keep my mouth shut. I didn’t need to give clarifications to anyone expect my family. But people are curious and they wanted to know what’s happening between a couple,” she says.

It was four months ago that Rashami decided to separate from her husband of three-and-half-years, and the two have been at loggerheads since then.

“We are not on ­talking terms ... it’s been over four months. Our last communication had turned ugly and we have not spoken since. Before that I had told him, ‘It’s not happening so let’s get separated’. He took his own time to come to terms with it, and after his brother’s wedding, his lawyer got in touch with my lawyer,” she says.

They participated in a dance reality show ­together last year, after which reports emerged that they were sorting out their differences. But a certain development led Rashami to take this ­decision.

“After that show, some incident happened between me and his ­family. That’s when I realised it’s not ­working out. We were getting a devil out of each other,” she says.

Rashami’s family, too, felt the same way.

“My family had started raising questions. They were like, ‘We have seen you go through so much trouble ... and what are you doing now? What respect are you getting?’” she says.

She adds: “Even after it was reported that Nandish and I are not together, there were so many other things that were being written about. I also have a family to answer. If you feel that you have gone through pain and are going to be vocal about it, what about me?” she says.

While she does not wish to comment on the reports of Nandish dating actor Ankita Shorey, Rashami says she has never taken link-up reports seriously. “If he was working with someone I did not know, I would ask him about it. But I had no ­problems with his female ­friends. I loved him and never doubted him,” she says.
