Amit Shah takes charge as Home Minister, Rajnath Singh as Defence minister

The two ministers responsible for India's internal and external security took charge today. Bharatiya Janata Party President Amit Shah assumed charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs in his first stint in the central government. After taking over, he held a meeting with Joint Secretaries of the Ministry. Shah's predecessor, Rajnath Singh, took charge as the Defence Minister of India. He held a meeting with the tri-services chiefs after taking charge. Both Shah and Singh will be part of the new Cabinet Committee on Security, which also includes the Prime Minister and Finance and External Affairs Ministers.
