Citizenship debate: Amit Shah’s challenge vs Manish Tewari’s charge in LS
Updated on Dec 09, 2019 11:35 pm IST
Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Congress' Manish Tewari indulged in a fierce debate in Parliament on Monday. The Lower House was discussing the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, which was tabled by the government on Monday. Shah claimed that the bill was not discriminatory, and merely sought to protect minorities from neighbouring countries. He said that it was, in fact, the Opposition which sought special provisions for minorities over the years, but was opposing the bill now. Congress' Manish Tewari countered the Home Minister, citing Articles of the Constitution, Supreme Court judgments, and international covenants.
