Updated on Jan 12, 2018 05:19 pm IST

Four judges of the Supreme Court have publicly criticised chief justice Dipak Misra over distribution of cases to judges and raised concerns about judicial appointments, warning that a lack of impartiality could imperil India's democracy. In an unprecedented press conference on January 12, 2018 - the first of its kind by sitting judges of the SC - justices J Chelamsewar, Ranjan Gogoi, MB Lokur and Kurien Joseph alleged the administration of the top court is not in order and that the CJI had ignored their suggestions to take remedial steps on several matters.
