HT Conversations II Aadhaar valid but need for strong data protection laws
Published on Sept 26, 2018 07:15 pm IST
The Supreme Court has upheld the Constitutional validity of the Aadhaar scheme but with some conditions. While you will still need your Aadhaar card for filing income tax returns, now you do not need to link your Aadhaar to your SIM card. Also, you would not need to submit Aadhaar details for school admissions and neither are they mandatory for UGC, NEET and CBSE examinations. Private companies also cannot ask for Aadhaar details for verification purposes. In this edition of Hindustan Times Conversations, HT's Legal Editor Ashok Bagriya discusses the implications of the SC verdict with HT's Lifestyle writer Kabir Singh Bhandari.
