Ram Rahim convicted in Journalist Ram Chander Chhatarpati murder case

A Special CBI Court convicted self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim in journalist Ram Chander Chhatarpati murder case. Quantum of punishment will be pronounced on January 17. Ramchandra Chhatrapati, a Sirsa-based journalist, was shot dead in October 2002 for openly criticising the Dera chief in his newspaper 'Poora Sach'. Ram Rahim, the Dera Sacha Sauda chief is already in Rohtak's Sunaria jail, serving a 20-year old prison term since 2017 for raping two of his women followers. In a pre-emptive move, security has been beefed up in Haryana and parts of Punjab where many followers of the cult Dera Sacha Sauda reside. There was a mass scale rioting last time when he was convicted in rape cases of two sadhvis inside Dera premise in Sirsa. Section 144 has been imposed in Rohtak and Panchkula. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is currently serving a 20-year prison term in Rohtak's Sunaria jail for raping two of his women followers.
