Singer-turned-politician Hans Raj Hans said that Jawaharlal Nehru University should be renamed after Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Hans is a Lok Sabha member from North West Delhi constituency. He was speaking on the government's recent decision to abrogate Jammu and Kashmir's special status. He also said 'we suffered due to errors of our elders'. Hans started his political journey with BJP's ally Shiromani Akali Dal, before having a brief stint with the Congress. He subsequently joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2016.
