RIP Manohar Parrikar: From an IIT engineer to BJP’s tallest leader in Goa

Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar (63) died at his Panaji residence on Sunday evening just over a year after he was detected with cancer. Parrikar was suffering from advanced pancreatic cancer and had been in and out of hospitals in Goa, Mumbai, New York and New Delhi over the past year. On January 30, Parrikar had presented the state budget. He was flown to New Delhi the next day for a follow-up treatment at AIIMS. His death comes amidst political turmoil in the state. Congress had on Saturday staked claim, asking Governor Mridula Sinha to 'dismiss' the BJP-led government which it said was in a minority.
