Just days after the BJP-led coalition swept assembly polls in Tripura, the state witnessed violence with the BJP and the CPM blaming each other. A statue of Marxist icon Lenin was demolished in South Tripura's Belonia on March 5. The driver of the payloader used to demolish the statue was arrested on March 6. The Bhartiya Janata Party won a two-third majority, ending 25 years of Left rule in the north-eastern state. State BJP president Biplab Kumar Deb is set to take oath as the next chief minister of the state, replacing Manik Sarkar.
