State Pollution control board of Jammu and Kashmir has set up an Ambient Air Quality Monitoring System in Kathua industrial area. One of its first types, the machine will monitor air pollution in the thickly populated town. While the station will get the readings after every four hours, the machine will run for 24-hours a day. The device has a dust sampler and a high volume sampler to measure the pollutants in the air. It may be mentioned that about 300 small and large industrial units are functioning in the region, which includes cement, chemicals, paper and 'ghee'.
