A complete shutdown, announced by the hardliner Kashmiri separatist All Parties Hurriyat Conference, was observed in Kashmir on Friday. Masarat Alam Bhat, a senior functionary of the APHC (G), on behalf of the chief Syed Ali Shah Geelani had given a call for a 19-day-long statewide shutdown on Thursday. Bhat announced a shutdown calendar commencing on 25th June till 13th July, against what he termed human rights violations by security forces in the valley region. All shops, government offices and educational institutions remained closed and the public transport was off the roads.
