Cabinet approves consensual sex age as 18

Following serious objections raised by various political parties over lowering the age of consent for sex from 18 to 16 in the proposed anti-rape law, the government on Monday agreed to raise it back to 18. The decision comes after two all-party meetings where main opposition BJP and other parties suggested that lowering of age of consent to 16 will encourages pre-marital sex. The government will now a present a new bill which is likely to be tabled in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
