CSIR has an invaluable role in India's growth: PM

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh today inaugurated the 70th foundation day celebrations of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in New Delhi. Speaking at the event, Singh said that the CSIR had an invaluable role in India's growth over the years. Singh added that the CSIR needed to do more and become national leaders in the field of science, engineering and technology. CSIR was set up in 1942, and is an independent body and the country's largest Research and Development (R&D) organization. It has 39 labs and 50 field stations or extension centers all over the nation.
