Formula One coming to India in 2009

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Suresh Kalmadi announced on June 14 that India has been given permission to hold Formula One Grand Prix for the 2009 season. Kalmadi said the IOA would raise necessary financing through government or private funds. The body plans to hold the race around New Delhi. Formula One already enjoys a huge following in the country, particularly in the cities, and the arrival of an Indian driver among the elite, has whipped up the interest into a fever.
