Hindus celebrate Akshaya Tritiya

Hindu devotees in Allahabad take a holy dip in the river Ganges on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya or the Gold festival on Wednesday, May 7. Akshay Tritiya, the third day of the lunar fortnight of Vaishakh is considered one of the four most sacred days of the year.Lying at the confluence of the three sacred rivers Ganga, Yamuna and the now invisible Saraswati, Allahabad is considered a holy city because of the sacred Akshayvat tree.
