Syed Ali Shah Geelani, the Chairman of the hardline faction of the Hurriyat Conference, has called for a statewide shutdown over the alleged inhumane treatment of detainees in Indian jails. Schools, offices and business establishments remained closed in Kashmir on Saturday as part of the shutdown. Separatist leaders claim that human rights violation is still rampant in the Kashmir valley.
