IITs to produce 40,000 PhD in next 4 years: Sibal

Education Minister Kapil Sibal in New Delhi on Wednesday said that the country's premiere engineering institute, the Indian Institute of Technologies (IIT) as a system, would produce 40,000 PhD in the next four years. After attending a Council Meeting of the IITs, Sibal stated that there was an urgent need to upgrade the IIT system so that India can compete with rising powers like China. He also talked about setting targets for producing doctorates and researchers in a time bound manner.
