Industrialist R P Goenka passes away

Industrialist Rama Prasad Goenka, better known as R P Goenka, passed at his residence on Sunday morning in Kolkata after a brief illness. He was 83 and is survived by his wife Sushila and sons Harsh Vardhan and Sanjiv. R P Goenka was the eldest son of Keshav Prasad Goenka. The Goenkas are one of the oldest business families of India. He followed his family's tradition of expanding businesses through acquisitions. At the height of his business activity—the 1980s—he was widely regarded as a takeover tycoon. R P Goenka established RPG Enterprises in 1979 which included Phillips Carbon Black, Asian Cables, Agarpara Jute Mill and Murphy India with a turnover of about Rs 100 crore.
