As the three-day 'Rural Olympics' began in Kila Raipur village of Punjab on Thursday, the state authorities imposed a ban on bullock cart race following the guidelines of the central environment and forest ministry. According to the ministry's notice, performances by bulls, monkeys, tigers, panthers and lions are banned. The notice was issued under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960, which authorised the government to ban display of any animal and the notification also prohibits the use of bulls as performing animals.
