Loan waiver scheme to be implemented soon: FM

Finance Minister P Chidambaram said on Monday that the nationalised banks would start implementing the scheme to waive off farmers loan soon. He said that the state-run Canara Bank would implement the scheme by this month end. Chidambaram earlier proposed a waiver of rupees 600 billion of bank loans to farmers in the fiscal year 2008-09 in his annual budget. He had set June 30 as the deadline for waiving bank loans to small and marginal farmers.
