Mayawati orders release of Banda rape victim

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Saturday asked CB-CID to release the 17-year-old Dalit rape victim, who is in a jail in Banda on alleged charges of theft. Addressing a rally on the occasion of her 55th birthday, Mayawati said she will constitute a fast-track court to get justice for the minor girl. Meanwhile, Mayawati unveiled over 600 projects worth Rs 4,000 crore on the occasion of her 55th birthday today. She also announced the implementation of Janhit Guarantee Act, aimed at making government officials accountable to public and ensuring timely delivery of services, especially those related to dalits, poor and down trodden.
