Outrage in India over Savita Halappanavar’s death

Death of an Indian doctor Savita Halappanavar in Ireland after she was denied abortion under the country's strict laws sparks outrage across India with women's rights activists calling for swift change in laws to prevent any further “murders” of women. Terming the incident as unfortunate, Director of the Centre for Social Research (CSR) and President of Women Power Connect (WPC), Ranjana Kumari said in New Delhi today that laws cannot control the life of a woman and they need to be amended. Meanwhile, the BJP leaders today met the Irish Ambassador to India, Feilim McLaughlin, in New Delhi to register their protest. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Smriti Irani, leader of the women's wing of the BJP, said that the incident was nothing short of a murder.
