Over hunderd feared dead in Leh cloudburst

Over hundred people were feared dead in flash floods triggered by a massive cloudburst in Leh town of Jammu and Kashmir's Ladakh region on Thursday night. Many houses, hospitals, government and educational institutions have been damaged in the incident. According to media reports, several towers of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL), the state-owned telecommunications firm, have also been destroyed cutting off all communication to the region. The Army has launched massive rescue operations to evacuate trapped persons. It is reported that the dead include several jawans of the Indian Army. The number of those injured in the incident is estimated to be over 200.
