The Buddhist festival of Buddha Purnima was celebrated in Uttar Pradesh with great enthusiasm on Tuesday. In state's Kushinagar town, regarded as one of the holiest Buddhist sites as Buddha died here at the ripe age of 82, or as Buddhist traditions put it, he achieved 'Nirvana' which is freedom from the continuing cycle of birth and death, peace rallies were taken out on the occasion. Also, Buddhist monks from countries like Thailand, Laos and Vietnam joined in the celebrations here.
