PM should be in the purview of Lokpal bill: Karat

Updated on Jul 04, 2011 10:10 pm IST

Communist Party of India-Marxist general secretary Prakash Karat, on Sunday expressed his displeasure on the idea of excluding the Prime Minister from the purview of the Jan Lokpal Bill. While talking to mediapersons in Rohtak, Karat said the ruling Congress party was adopting double standards on the issue. The communist leader said that he failed to understand how in 2001 current Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee who was heading a parliamentary standing committee at that time had recommended the inclusion of the Prime Minister within the ambit of Lokpal and now why he and his party are reluctant to do so.
