Support the Afghan Taliban - 'official' ISI policy

The United States and its allies have been trying to wipe out terrorism from Afghanistan for over a decade now. But the task is far from completed. The 'war against terror' in Afghanistan has barely eroded the strong holds of the Taliban and the Al Qaeda. And why is it that despite a sustained and strong attack by the Nato, these terror outfits still hold sway in Afghanistan? Confidential War documents that appeared on Wikileaks make it clear that Pakistan's Inter-services Intelligence (ISI) has links with the Taliban, Al-Qaeda and other extremist organizations. This is not surprising. In the 1990s, the ISI helped create the Taliban and Pakistani support was decisive in the Taliban's capture of Kabul in 1996. These ties exist even today.
