US recession hits apparel industry in Coimbatore

The ongoing recession in US economy has severely hit Coimbatore's apparel industry and is now receiving only few export orders. The apparel exports have gone done by 15 per cent in Tirupur. In knitwear exports, Tirupur has registered a fall of 5 per cent. Tirupur is a major source of foreign exchange earnings for the country because of its exports. 56 percent of India's total knitwear exports come from Tirupur.
