Faced with an acute water crisis due to scanty rainfall, peafowl are deserting their natural habitat in India's western Pune. Morachi Chincholi village only 65 km from Pune has been home to 2,000 of these winged beauties. The villagers here regard the peafowl as a part of their family and ensure that the birds are not harmed. They have pleaded with the government to convert the village into a tourist destination to help save the peafowl.
