Indian Navy to counter Pak-China threat with ‘Shark’ INS Vagir | Lethal Sea Warrior Commissioned
Published on Jan 23, 2023 02:41 pm IST
The fifth Kalvari-class submarine, INS Vagir, has been commissioned by the Indian Navy. Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral R. Hari Kumar was present at the grand event in Mumbai. The submarine will boost India's capability in deterring enemies and conducting intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance, according to the Indian Navy. "Vagir" means sand shark, which represents stealth and fearlessness, two qualities synonymous with the ethos of a submariner. This "Sand Shark" in its new avatar has the distinction of having the lowest build time among all indigenously manufactured submarines till date. INS Vagir is also "powerful" proof of India's booming Aatmanirbhar mission.
