Onam joy in sub-zero Antarctica with 'Pookalam' on frozen lake; Mahindra in awe

- Onam fervour in India has ended, but a video of a celebration in Antarctica has now gone viral. The sub-zero temperature of Earth's coldest place could not dampen the warmth of the Malayali spirit to celebrate King Mahabali's arrival. Arranging a flower carpet known as Pookalam is a key part of the Onam celebration. However, as there are no flowers in the polar region, Malayalis made use of frozen ice to show how to carve out the traditional Pookalam in Antarctica. They used hammers and other equipment to create this beautiful design, which had coconut trees and Chundan Vallam (snake boat)—the symbols of Kerala. The video has now gone viral and has impressed industrialist Anand Mahindra too. Watch this wonderful piece of art.
