Pezeshkian said on April 25 that Iran would not enter “imposed negotiations” while facing what he described as hostile U.S. actions, including a naval blockade. In his phone call with Shehbaz Sharif, he said the contradiction between Washington’s pressure tactics and its stated desire for a political settlement had deepened mistrust among both the Iranian public and Iranian officials. At the same time, Iran is signaling it still wants a mediated pathway forward. After a day-long visit to Islamabad, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said he had shared Iran’s position on a “workable framework” to permanently end the war and praised Pakistan’s efforts to restore peace, while saying it remained unclear whether the U.S. was truly serious about diplomacy.
