Watch | Symptoms of heart disease can vary between men and women

Published on May 23, 2016 04:02 pm IST

Researchers conducted an online survey of 1,000 women nationwide and found that 74 percent had at least one heart disease risk factor, including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, irregular menstrual cycle, early menopause or a family history of heart disease. Women who were younger, lower-income or minority were the least likely to be aware of their heart disease risk factors. They were also least likely to know that heart disease is the number one killer of both men and women, according to researchers. Only 16 percent of those women were told by a doctor that they were at risk for heart disease.
