US & China spar over South China sea at Indian Ocean Conference in Maldives

Diplomats from the United States and China engaged in a war of words over the South China sea at the IOC in Maldives. The US diplomat said that South China sea is international waters and China's activities in the region are illegal. Immediately, a Chinese diplomat hit back saying that its sovereignty over the region is undisputed. The Chinese diplomat also added that everyone enjoys freedom of navigation in the region according to international law.
